Why we like it
A wonderfully decorative piece of vintage barware with just the right amount of European country-house charm.
This tall ceramic cognac decanter is hand-painted with loose, wonderfully naïve flowers and scrolling foliage in olive green, burnt orange, ochre and deep blue. The word “Cognac” is painted across the front in sweeping black script, while coordinating painted bands circle the neck and base.
Its sculptural handle and matching ceramic stopper make it particularly handsome displayed on a bar cart or drinks cabinet—and we think it would look equally wonderful mixed into a shelf of old books and collected pottery.
Originally made as a decorative container for cognac, today it makes a charming piece of vintage barware with all the irregularities and character that make hand-decorated pottery so appealing.
