A wonderfully fanciful piece of vintage French faience, hand-painted in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie in Provence. The scallop-shell dish is framed by two entwined fish with delightfully expressive faces, finished with a traditional floral bouquet and rich manganese-purple detailing.
Decorative, useful and just eccentric enough, it would be lovely for holding jewelry, wrapped sweets, cocktail garnishes or simply displayed on a table or bookshelf.
WHY IT CAUGHT OUR EYE
The French have always had a gift for making everyday objects feel a little theatrical. We loved the wonderfully strange fish, the graceful shell form and the fact that every painted brushstroke reveals the hand of its maker. It’s a small piece with an enormous amount of personality.
