Why we like it

Pretty enough for the china cabinet, useful enough for the breakfast table.

This charming vintage English covered bowl was made by James Kent Ltd. of Longton, England, in the wonderfully romantic Convolvulus pattern. Its wonderfully shaped porcelain body is scattered with pink and blue flowers and green leaves, then overlaid with delicate gold floral tracery that gives the entire piece an almost lace-like quality.

A fitted metal lid with black finial and opening for a serving spoon makes it wonderfully practical. Traditionally suited to preserves, jam or sugar, we can also imagine it filled with sugar packets on a coffee station or used simply as a decorative piece among collected English china.

The gently crazed glaze, softly aged gilding and patina of the metal lid are all part of its vintage charm.
