Why we like it

Irish history, American history and vintage Kentucky bourbon all meet in this wonderfully unusual 1976 Old Fitzgerald porcelain decanter.

Created for America's Bicentennial, the American Sons of St. Patrick collector's decanter celebrates the contributions of Irish and Irish-American figures to early American history. Its colorful decoration combines shamrocks, flags, historic scenes and portraits of figures including Commodore John Barry, General Andrew Lewis, Major General John Sullivan and Andrew Jackson.

Best of all is its wonderfully unexpected crown-shaped porcelain stopper, detailed in gold and topped with a small rose-colored accent. The original Old Fitzgerald labeling remains at the shoulder, along with remnants of its original seal.

Originally filled with Old Fitzgerald Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, today it makes a terrific piece of vintage barware—and an especially fun find for a collector of Irish Americana, bourbon memorabilia or Bicentennial pieces.
