The Art of Getting Comfortable

Italian herringbone throws, beautiful color, and the pleasure of making something your own.
As the evenings turn cooler, we find ourselves paying a little more attention to the places where we spend time at home. A lamp beside a comfortable chair. Fresh bedding. A stack of books we’re finally going to get to. And a soft throw close enough to reach without getting up.
Our Italian herringbone throws are made for exactly that sort of everyday pleasure. We chose them for their beautiful weave, wonderfully soft feel, and generous selection of colors. They bring something lovely to a room, and they’re meant to be used: pulled around your shoulders, carried out to the porch, or claimed by whoever gets to the sofa first.
They also happen to be among our favorite things to give. Add a monogram, and a beautiful throw becomes a gift chosen very particularly for one person, one couple, or one home.
Made in Italy, made for everyday life
Woven in Italy from a blend of 50% cotton and 50% soft acrylic, each throw has a fine herringbone pattern and a fringed finish. The subtle pattern gives the fabric depth, whether you choose a pale neutral or a more saturated color.
At 51 by 67 inches, it’s a generous size for settling into a chair or stretching out on the sofa. Folded across the foot of a bed, it adds another layer of texture and puts a little extra warmth within reach.
There’s something particularly satisfying about an everyday object that feels this considered. The fringe, the weave, the way the fabric falls over the arm of a chair—all of it contributes to a room that feels comfortable and cared for.
A color that belongs in your home
The color selection is a large part of the appeal. Soft neutrals sit alongside delicate pastels, leafy greens, clear blues, and warmer, richer shades. You can choose a color that quietly belongs with what you already have, or use a throw to introduce something new.
Think about the room where it will live. A pale throw can soften dark furniture. A green can pick up a detail in a rug or a favorite painting. Blue looks especially lovely with fresh white upholstery and the warm tones of natural wood. For a gift, a color you’ve noticed in someone’s home is a thoughtful place to begin.

At the foot of the bed
In a bedroom, we love a quiet palette: ivory, cream, pale linen, and the warmth of dark wood. Layered bedding looks inviting when the colors are closely related and the interest comes from texture.
A herringbone throw folded loosely across the foot of a four-poster bed fits beautifully into that setting. A single initial in a softly contrasting thread adds a personal detail. It’s a lovely idea for a wedding or bridal gift, and just as appealing for your own room.

Over the arm of a favorite sofa
A leather sofa calls for a little softness. Against cognac leather, a green throw feels rich and welcoming, especially in a room with bookshelves, a good rug, and a fire going.
This is where a throw becomes part of the evening routine. There’s a book on the table, the dog has found a comfortable spot, and the room is ready for someone to sit down. Draped over the arm rather than folded away, the throw is both part of the room and ready to use.

For the house by the water
These throws belong just as naturally in a lighter room. Many of our customers spend time at a lake house, a beach house, or a home in Florida, where blue and white, pale wood, and relaxed upholstery make such a lovely combination.
A Chambray throw looks right at home on a cream sofa with ticking-striped pillows. It’s useful on a breezy evening, on a shaded porch, or indoors when the air conditioning feels a little ambitious. The room may change with the season; the pleasure of having something soft nearby does not.
We particularly like this as a thank-you for a long weekend at someone’s second home. Choose a color that belongs in the room where you’ve spent time together, and consider a monogram for the finishing touch. It’s a gift your hosts can enjoy long after the weekend is over.

The pleasure of a monogram
Our throws are lovely just as they are, and you’re welcome to choose one without embroidery. For those who enjoy a more personal finish, Joan does our local monogramming.
A single uppercase initial has a simple elegance. A classic three-letter monogram, with the center letter slightly larger, offers a more traditional look. Thread color makes a difference, too: a close match can be subtle, while ivory against blue gives the lettering a little more presence.
All monograms are placed at the bottom of the throw. We’ll help you discuss initials, thread color, and timing before embroidery, so please call us before placing a personalized order. You can also read more about Joan and her work here.
A gift with someone particular in mind
For a wedding or bridal celebration, a monogrammed throw is something a couple can use in their home from the beginning. For a housewarming, it brings comfort to a room that’s still taking shape. For a graduate moving into a first apartment, it’s a familiar, personal piece to take along.
It can be a lovely retirement gift, too—something for the reading chair, the porch, or the home where there will finally be more time to linger. And for a generous host, it’s a lasting thank-you that feels appropriate to the care they’ve taken in making you welcome.
Of course, there doesn’t have to be an occasion. Sometimes you know exactly which chair needs a throw, exactly which color you want, and exactly whose initials belong on it.
