French Knot: Something Extraordinary for Every Winter

One of the pleasures of choosing things for Clever Girl is finding something that makes us pause. A beautiful combination of colors. An unexpected bit of embroidery. The unmistakable character of something made by hand.

Our newly arrived French Knot scarves, hats, and mittens have all three.

Founded by designer Lindsay Mason, this woman-owned company brings together her eye for color and design with the skill of women artisans in Nepal. The knitting and embroidery are done by hand, carrying forward techniques that take time, practice, and considerable care. You can see that work in the details—and appreciate it every time you pull on a pair of mittens or wrap a scarf around your neck.

We’re particularly taken with Lindsay’s sense of color. Her shades sometimes approach pastels, but there’s always something a little unexpected about them: a touch more depth, an unusual neighbor, a combination you might never have thought to put together yourself. The result is soft and expressive, with enough individuality to make even a familiar winter coat feel interesting again.

There’s a timelessness to these designs, too. They’re the sort of pieces we can imagine being just as delighted to pull out ten winters from now. A favorite hat becomes part of your winter wardrobe in a very personal way. You know how it feels, which coat you love it with, and exactly where you left it when spring finally arrived.

At Clever Girl, we choose our collections carefully and bring things in in limited quantities. We look for the details that make an item worth having: thoughtful design, skilled workmanship, and that small pleasure of reaching for something you truly love. Handwork does carry a price. We think its value becomes especially clear over time, through the pleasure of wearing and enjoying it again and again.

And with Christmas beginning to enter our thoughts, French Knot feels particularly right for giving. A beautifully made scarf or pair of embroidered mittens is both useful and deeply personal—a gift chosen with someone’s colors, style, and everyday life in mind. It’s easy to imagine the recipient reaching for it years later and still remembering who gave it to them.

Our French Knot collection has arrived, and we’re so pleased to share it. Come try on a hat, find your colors, and take a closer look at the handwork.

These are the details we love finding for you.
